Three Things You Need To Know About 191 Visa

Updated: Aug 16, 2023

In this blog, we will discuss a few things you need to know regarding Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) 191 visa.

The Subclass 191 visa has two streams for primary applicants:

  • the Hong Kong (Regional) stream

  • the Regional Provision stream

First, you need to know that there is no minimum income threshold for applicants for the Subclass 191 eligibility. No instrument specifies a minimum income threshold. The only income-related requirement for this subclass is that the primary applicant must provide assessment notices from the ATO for three of the five years while holding their eligible visa.

Secondly, The regulations do not stipulate that a primary applicant for a Subclass 191 visa must have been either the primary or secondary applicant in the provisional visa application. Therefore, a subclass 491 visa holder can apply for a subclass 191 visa if they meet the relevant requirements, regardless of whether they were granted the subclass 491 visa as the primary or secondary applicant.

Thirdly, Subsequent entrants are possible for subclass 491, so if you have recently got married on a 491 visa or have a partner, you can add your spouse by lodging a Subsequent entrant visa. With our recent 491 Subsequent entrant grants, we have been noticing a processing time of 4-6 months.

As many of you will be eligible for the 191 visa soon, you should start preparing your 191 visa application at least three months before you become eligible. You may book a consultation with us to get your application ready for the permanent 191 visa.
